San Diego Padres (Eric Stults -117 1* FREE PLAY) Eric Stults has been pretty consistent all year and comes into this game with a 0.73 WHIP over 22 innings with a 1.64 ERA over his last three starts combined. Stults will go up against the Diamondbacks who he's had moderate success against. The Diamondbacks are a much stronger team against RHP this season as they have just a .249 average and are scoring 3.56 runs per 9 vs LHP on the year and 3.37 on the road. Wednesday's MLB probable starters has a bevy of pitchers that are streaking right now with a total of 10 pitchers with ERA's under 3.00 over their last 3 starts combined with just 3 pitchers who are cold. We have seen signs of our luck changing despite losing another MLB POD in extra innings last night with the Rays not able to get the winning run in with bases loaded and 0 outs with Evan Longoria up. With that all said there is still over 3 months left in the season and I'm starting to put together nice runs on our free picks. Wednesday should be no different as I have found tremendous value on one of today's hot starters. New York Yankees (Phil Hughes +121 2** FREE PLAY) Phil Hughes gets a bad image because of the media in New York, but he continues to perform on the road posting a 3.44 ERA this season. Tuesday's card does not provide many pitchers who have ERA's under 3.00 over their last three starts or pitchers who are considered cold with ERA's above 6.00 over their last three starts, but we did find value on one of our starters as Bartolo Colon will face off against the Yankees. Oakland Athletics -107 (1.5* FREE PLAY) Bartolo Colon may soon be suspended, but while he is still pitching he has caught my eye as he has posted a 1.04 WHIP and a 0.39 ERA over his last three starts over 23 innings. It's strange because he's throwing strike, but all he is doing is throwing straight fastballs 85% of the time. Normally that would get you in trouble against a team like the Yankees, but not this year as the Yankees are ranked #21 vs. the fastball compared to ranking #1 last year. Colon struggled against Granderson, Jeter, and Arod big time who all had over 1.000 OPS against him so it should help him facing this version of the Yankees who are 0-4 in their last 4 trips to Oakland. Well our MLB POD's have been on an awful run just 21-27 on the season with 11 of the losses by 1 run, but our MLB preview article plays have been on a 6-0 run with the Oakland A's come from behind victory on Thursday.
