Friday's "Need To Know"

Image

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going today. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests. Friday features many hot pitchers with a total of 8 pitchers with an ERA under 3.00 in their last 5 starts with at least 29.2IP. We are going to feature the two pitchers with the best shot at a win today and tell you all the notables.

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:

Wandy Rodriguez (Astros)

Wandy Rodriguez has been on fire and I have brought it up before that he has always been a great pitcher at home, but has struggled on the road. I also brought up that the moment a great home starter puts it together on the road is the minute he becomes an ace and that's what Wandy Rodriguez is this year.

In 2008 he had a 4.34 ERA on the road 2007 6.37 and this year he has a 3.15 ERA including a 1.16 ERA in his last 5 starts. I don't expect him to struggle against the Brewers on Friday and actually like the Astros as one of my free MLB picks. He will face Galardo a guy that is a tough opponent with a 3.11 ERA, but the Astros have seen him 3 times this year and I think they will make the necessary adjustments to score a few runs to back up Rodriguez as Galardo has a 4.28 ERA vs. Houston this year.

The Brewers have a collective average of .258 vs. Rodriguez, but Hart and Weeks have the most success a combined 16-43. Hart and Weeks are both on the DL and will not play which makes this start even more appealing for Rodriguez.

Adam Wainwright (St. Louis Cardinals)

Image
Cardinals vs. the Padres will have quite the pitching match up on Friday night with Latos vs. Wainwright. Latos has done nothing but impress me since he has came up to the majors as he has a 4-1 record with a .94 Whip and 2.43 ERA. However, we are speaking about Wainwright here today as he has a 3-2 record and a 1.56 ERA over his past 5 starts.

Both of these pitchers are on 5 days rest so it should be quite the show down the advantage obviously points to the Cardinals as they have a much more formidable offense than the Padres, but do not think Latos won't pitch his heart out.

Notables - Last 5 Starts!
 • Barry Zito (3-1, 1.16 WHIP, 2.32 ERA)
 • Joe Blanton (2-2, 0.94 WHIP, 2.25 ERA)
 • Matt Latos (4-1, 0.94 WHIP, 2.43 ERA)
 • Clayton Kershaw (1-1, 1.06 WHIP, 1.41 ERA)
 • Roy Halladay (2-2, 1.05 WHIP, 2.36 ERA)
 • Andy Pettitte (1-1, 1.01 WHIP, 1.87 ERA)

Most likely to sustain and win:

Wandy Rodriguez

Probable Cold Starting Pitchers:

Jose Contreras (White Sox)

Contreras has really struggled as of late he's not getting blown out or anything, but just having consistent 3, and 4 ER outings and the Sox are taking him out before it gets worse. He has a 6.75 ERA in his last 5 starts with an 0-4 record.

He will face the Oakland A's for the first time since 2007 and he will have his work cut out as they have a .310 collective average vs. him and they have a .321 average while scoring 6.02 runs per 9 innings in their last 5 games.

Notables - Last 5 Starts!
 • Jered Weaver (2-0, 1.40 WHIP, 5.83 ERA)
 • Kevin MIllwood (1-2, 1.52 WHIP, 6.12 ERA)

Most likely to rebound:

Jered Weaver
