The ACC has increased to a total of 14 teams with additions from the Big East in Syracuse and Pittsburgh. In our ACC college football preview we break down both the offenses and defenses of the top 5 teams based on the ACC college football odds to win the conference.

Clemson are the favorites to win the ACC, but they are also the perennial disappointers. I feel they are ranked too highly based on their upset of LSU in the [url=http://www.sportsbetcapping.com/Chick-Fil-A-Bowl-Preview-2012]2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl[/b] and their pre season ranking is 8th.

Clemson returns 8 starters on offense including senior standout QB Tajh Boyd and more importantly 4 offensive linemen. Boyd threw for 3,896 yards 36 TD's and just 13 interceptions a year ago. Chad Morris passed on head coaching offers and returns as the offensive coordinator as well. They will need to replace RB Andre Ellington, but with threats on the outside in Sammy Watkins/Charone Peake and a solid offensive line I see no reason why senior Roderick McDowell won't pick up where Ellington left off.

Clemson returns 6 starters on this side of the ball and Brett Venable returns as the defensive coordinator. They improved from 81st to 48th in scoring defense a year ago and I feel that should improve again now that the players are getting more used to Venable's system. The defense will be able to generate pressure from their defensive line led by junior Vic Beasley which will lead to third down stops, but their secondary and run defense are major question marks.

This is Al Golden's third year and we started to see the progression at the end of last year and I think we will see it again leading into the 2013 season. He did the same with Temple taking them from 0-11 in 2005 to 9-4 in his 4th year with a program that was just simply awful.

11 starters return for an offense that scored 30, 40, 40, and 52 in their last 4 games of the season. They should only get better with the talent returning led by senior QB Stephen Morris. They also lured James Coley away from Florida State who will install his up-tempo, pass friendly attack. We may see them start off slow because of this, but they should be a top 10 offense. However, look for them to have issues on third downs and converting in the red zone.

This is the main reason why Miami won't win the ACC championship. Their offense was terrible in every facet a year ago and I don't see a quick fix. The front seven is going to struggle at the point of attack especially on the road against good running teams and they lack the kind of talent that was a regular thing on defense for the Hurricanes in years past. I expect the oddsmakers to have a ton of high totals for when this team plays.

FSU has improved in all three years under Jimbo Fisher, but now they have some turnover on the roster and coaching staff to overcome, but they will have the foundation on offense with 4 of the 5 offensive linemen returning for a young QB. In total the offense has 9 and the defense has 7 returning from last year's squad and is the reason why they are +250 to win the ACC Conference Championship.

With EJ Manuel gone it's hard to see this offense improving despite returning 9 of their 11 starters, but red shirt freshmen Jameis Winston is the successor and there is a lot of hype. Winston will have junior WR Rashad Greene and TE Nick O'Leary to throw to and is backed by a solid running game behind the most physical offensive line in the ACC.

Jeremy Pruitt comes over from Alabama where he was the secondary coach for 3 years and will take over for Mark Stoops who took over at Kentucky and will inherit one of the country's most talented defenses as far as depth is concerned. They return 7 starters, but they have a ton of depth and have an ability to stop the run and the pass led by senior Lamarcus Joyner who should become a top 10 pick under Pruitt.

Finally the Tar Heels are post season eligible and following an 8-4 under Larry Fedora there is a lot of excitement around the team.

They will return senior QB Bryn Renner who threw for 3,356 yards 28 TD's and just 7 INT's. Fedora will keep his up-tempo, no-huddle spread offense that worked well a year ago, but they'll have to do it behind a rebuilt offensive line. They also lose RB Giovani Bernard along with the three offensive linemen that he ran behind. This unit ranked 8th in the country in scoring, but that number is not likely to improve with these changes.

This unit lacks edge pressure and has a lot of weaknesses up the middle at linebacker. Teams that want to run should be able to against the unique 4-2-5 defensive scheme. However, the secondary is a real strength and they are strong at tackles which could lead to good red-zone defense and some takeaways.

Frank Beamer is back for his 28th year, but he's got to rebound from a terrible season that started with high hopes and ended with a dreadful 7-6 finish.

Logan Thomas is back for his senior season at QB after a very disappointing and inconsistent year. However, Scott Loeffer takes over as the offensive coordinator and should have a huge impact on Logan Thomas season. It's not all on Thomas though as the offensive line has to do a better job protecting. Loeffer will look to spread out the attack, but it will be a reach challenge because they lack proven skill players. I expect another similar season this year with a little improvement.

Bud Foster's defense is fine as it always is, but the offense constantly put them in bad positions. The defense is stacked again in 2013 with 9 starters returning, 5 of which were at least honorable mention in the ACC. Each level has talent and experience and should keep this team in a lot of low scoring games.

Here is a look at the other 9 ACC teams and their odds to win the ACC championship. Just because we are not breaking them down does not mean we won't be looking at each one of these teams in great details for our .

Georgia Tech +1200 - Starters returning offense/defense 16 (8,8)
