News: Lions Celebrate Huge Comeback; Patriots Bounce Back Week Four

Week four of the NFL season saw two of the league’s three perfect teams remain undefeated, while the third suffered an unlikely loss. After consecutive comeback wins over the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots, some had to be surprised by the fact that the Buffalo Bills couldn’t beat the Cincinnati Bengals, eventually losing that game 23-20 on the road to fall to 3-1. Meanwhile, the two teams the Bills beat the previous two weeks clashed on the west coast, and the Patriots bounced back with a 31-19 win over Oakland to tied Buffalo at the top of the AFC East at 3-1. In the NFC, the two teams that were unbeaten remained that way, albeit in completely different fashion. The defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers improved to 4-0 with a 49-23 win over the lowly Denver Broncos, but they have company at the top of the NFC North after the Detroit Lions outscored the Dallas Cowboys 31-10 in the second half of their contest to win 34-30. The Sunday night game saw New York Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan return to Baltimore to face the Ravens’ team that he served as defensive coordinator on, and his new team was clearly no match for his old team in a 34-17 loss, their second consecutive defeat.

MLB News: Cardinals Rebound; Brewers Extend Lead In NLDS

While the Milwaukee Brewers have opened their NLDS series exactly the way that many fans expected they would, the St. Louis Cardinals refuse to give in against the powerful Philadelphia Phillies in their opening round series. Trailing 4-0 in the fourth of game two, the Cardinals came back with five straight runs including an RBI single from Albert Pujols in the seventh to upset Cliff Lee and the heavily favored Phillies and tie the series. Meanwhile, the Brewers’ offense exploded in a 9-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the home sweep, and set the tone for the series heading to the desert. The next two NLDS games will be played on Tuesday.

NASCAR News: Kyle Busch Wins At Dover

With a strong push at the end, Kyle Busch held off five-time defending Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards to capture his first victory of the 2011 Chase at Dover on Sunday. Busch moved up to eighth in the standings, while Edwards finished the race third to climb in to a tie with Kevin Harvick for the SCS points lead. Only 15 points separate the top eight drivers in the standings heading in to next weekend’s race at Kansas, with seven races left to go in the Chase. Johnson sits in the fifth spot, 13 points back of the lead.

College Football News: Big East Looks To Expand

The Big East Commissioner has given the okay for expansion, with a number of schools expected to be pursued. The list of schools expected to garner the interest of the Big East include Navy, Army, Air Force, Temple, Central Florida, and SMU, along with the obvious choice in TCU. With the loss of both Syracuse and Pittsburgh the commissioner will not want to appear desperate but is clearly in a bind, and expansion is likely.
