Golf News: Rory Back On Top After Record Win At PGA Championship

Over the past few months, most of the talk about Rory McIlroy has been on his declining game and whether or not he could ever have what it takes to consistently challenge the rest of the PGA Tour as one of the best in the sport. That will change following McIlroy’s brilliant performance at the 2012 PGA Championship, where at 23-years old he became the youngest player since Seve Ballesteros to win two major tournaments. Even Tiger Woods was almost four months older than McIlroy when he won his second major, lending some support to those who argue the Northern Irishmen’s chances of rivaling Tiger as one of the best to ever play the sport. McIlroy completed his final day without a bogey, and with a record eight-stroke win at the PGA Championship there will be no doubt about his potential going forward.

NFL News: Luck Brilliant As Colts Down Rams In No. 1 Pick’s Debut

When the Indianapolis Colts committed to using the first-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft on quarterback Andrew Luck, it meant handing the keys to the offense to someone other than four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning for the first time since the latter was drafted in 1998. So when Luck became the second quarterback in franchise history to throw a touchdown on his first NFL pass, it was a fitting following to the man who did it first. Luck completed 10-of-16 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns in his Colts’ debut, a 38-3 trouncing of the visiting St. Louis Rams. While the job is sure to get a lot more difficult from here on out, Indianapolis could not have asked for a better start to the Luck era than what they got in his professional debut.

MLB News: Lester K’s 12 As Red Sox Blow Away Indians

Jon Lester struck out 12 over six innings, and the Boston Red Sox offense cranked out 14 runs on 16 hits in a 14-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. It marked Lester’s first win in six weeks, after the Red Sox ace went 0-5 with a 7.49 ERA over that span. The struggles of Lester and fellow Boston starter Josh Beckett have been well documented this season, a big reason why the Red Sox are currently out of playoff contention. With a three-game set against the Orioles in Baltimore to open the week before a three-game weekend series at the New York Yankees, the next seven days will be crucial in the direction of Boston’s season. Meanwhile, the National League was home to a couple of impressive pitching performances of its own, with Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter Chris Capuano striking out 10 over eight shutout innings in a 5-0 win over the Miami Marlins, and Cincinnati Reds’ starter Johnny Cueto pitching eight scoreless in a 3-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

NASCAR News: Ambrose Beats Out Keselowski On Final Lap For Repeat At Watkins Glen

Marcos Ambrose slid past Brad Keselowski on the final lap of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, beating him out for his second win in as many years at Watkins Glen International. With oil from Bobby Labonte’s No. 47 car spewed all over the track, race leader Kyle Busch slipped out of what seemed liked a commanding lead and Ambrose beat out Keselowski in a race to the finish for his first win of the season, climbing to 17th in the Sprint Cup Series standings. Meanwhile, Jimmie Johnson finished third in the race to climb in to the top spot in the standings, with just four races to go before the Chase gets underway in the Windy City.
