Take Cardinals -135 4.5-Dime POD
We are going with the Cardinals here as a POD I think we have great value here considering what the Cardinals starters have done at home. Pineiro's worst start was a 5IP 3 ER performance against the Rockies. Every other start he had gotten to the 6th inning at home and he has a 2.41 ERA here only giving up 2 HR all season. If you are going to beat Pineiro you better do it by putting together hits because he also does not walk many people. He has an incredible 7 BB in 71 IP at home this year. I just do not see the Astros able to put back to back hits and play small ball against the Cardinals even with Oswalt on the mound. Astros are hitting just .211 and scoring 3.10 runs per 9 innings in their last 10 vs. RHP. Astros are 3-9 in their last 12 road games vs. RH starter and are 3-13 in their last 16 as a dog. Pineiro is backed by a bullpen that has an ERA of 2.13 in their last 10 games and is among the league leaders at 3.86 for the season. Don't get me wrong the Cardinals offense will have their hands filled against Oswalt but I see Oswalt struggling a bit more on the road as he tries to get his feet wet again off the DL.
Oswalt has had 2 road starts since coming back from the DL. The results? not good he's allowed 21 base runners 17 H and 4 BB in just 11 innings pitched. 11 ER for a 9.00 ERA on the road in those 2 starts. He has not been overly successful vs. the Cardinals in his career as Pujols is .303, 5HR off Oswalt and collectively the Cardinals are batting .289. in 2 starts this year against the Cardinals he's gone 13IP but has allowed 16H and 3 BB giving up 9 ER in those two starts including 6 ER in his 1 start in St. Louis. The Cardinals have been on fire backing Pineiro as they are 10-1 in his last 11 starts and 8-0 following a quality start in his last appearance. Astros are 1-8 in their last 9 here and the Cardinals are 14-3 at home in their last 17 as favorites. As well the Cardinals are 7-1 in their last 8 vs. RH starter. Cardinals are +.40 points in average at home vs. RHP as opposed to LHP and are scoring more runs too.
