Last night was frustrating enough losing on the Twins as our play of the week, but I think they'll bounce back here this afternoon with Liriano appearing to be turning the corner. I don't mind playing this despite Joe Mauer likely out of the lineup today after he caught 16 innings last night.

Edwin jackson (2.12ERA on the road) will go for the Tigers, but the Twins are batting .319 against him over his career and I think based on how hard the Twins hit the ball last night it's safe to say they can get to the Tigers bullpen 4.08ERA last 10. Span/Cuddyer/Kubel combined have a .643 average against Jackson who pitches 1 full run worse in day play than he does during the night. This one will be an odd start time at 4:10 for him and I think Liriano will have the benefit of starting at home.

Liriano who has been up and down this year had one of his best starts against the Detroit Tigers this year he went 7.1IP gave up 4H walked 3 and 2ER with 9 strike outs. He'll face the Tigers lineup that is .205 2.28R/9 vs. LHP in their last 5 games. The Tigers are 7-15 in the last 22 meetings here and they are ranked 15th in hitting. Liriano had a solid June and we'll see if he can continue to get better as the weather changes and the season progresses. In June he had a 2-1 record with 3.77ERA. More importantly was his 30:12 K:BB ratio. When he's not throwing balls he is striking batters out. Tigers have a .269 average vs. him over his career mostly coming from Polanco and Magglio Ordonez who account for 12 of their 29 hits against. Take those two out and they are hitting just .239.
