Miss State and Florida play completely different styles yet both have played close games over the past few years and I think today will be no different. Florida just came off an emotional win after trailing the entire game at Mississippi and Miss State is not a team you want to face after that. Miss State gets it done in the paint with a duo of Arnett Moultrie and Renado Sidney while Florida is more of a team that scores from the perimeter with their guard play. Again a conference game I don't see why Florida is this heavily favored. Throw out their home/away stats they played arguably the two worst SEC teams in their home games in Georgia and LSU and overall have had weak teams come into Florida.

I love the fact that Miss State has already shown an ability to win on the road in a tough environment vs. a team that can shoot the three. Vanderbilt is one example and they allowed over 50% from 3 yet they still pulled off the victory. I like the fact that Miss State has the edge on the boards and they are the better FT% team. They also have had a more challenging schedule and are ranked higher in my RPI ratings. They may not win but 9.5 points is too rich.

Maryland played right with Duke the other night, but fell late to an emotional loss. I don't see them getting back up for this game against Virginia Tech that plays good defense. First of all Virginia Tech is hungry for more wins after winning their first conference game and I think they get it in the right spot vs. Maryland.

Virginia Tech had a huge win on the road at Virginia ranked 17th at the time and then they got their "hang over" out of the way at home against BYU in a loss the other night. Now it's back to conference basketball and this team is focused showing an ability to win with defense which is important since their offense is so up and down much like Maryland, but that's why I like them here tonight. Maryland has not shown an ability to win with defense and Virginia Tech is by far a better FT shooting team 28th compared to Maryland 282nd. Virginia Tech is holding opponents to less than 40% from the field this season and Maryland is not bound to get many extra opportunities especially since they do not force turnovers and are nearly dead last 337th in steals per game. Maryland does not play the home dog roll well just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games as a home dog. Their youth really shows in these moments and I think losing to Duke and now coming back to play on a Saturday will show that Virginia Tech is the more prepared team.
