There is a ton of value on the Cardinals once again tonight. Once this series goes back to St. Louis I see the Giants stealing a game or two depending on the match ups but right now this is one that does not favor a hot hitting Cardinals team that is full of confidence. I’ve watched Ryan Vogelsong’s last few starts and he has not been impressive. He’s a high LOB % guy meaning he seems to get the outs when he needs to, but that’s something that’s going to be a major challenge against a Cardinals team that is #1 this post season with an .819 OPS with runners on and during the regular season they were ranked 7th. They just flat out know how to hit and Jon Jay will get it started against Vogelsong as he’s 3-6 followed by Beltran who has just been the key to this teams success.

Chris Carpenter won’t be asked to go too deep into tonight’s game and I expect him to be great again. The Giants can hit, but the have struggled against Carpenter who should be sharper than his last outing when he still managed to give up 0 ER in 5 innings despite allowing many base runners. The Giants do not hit as well at home and I expect them to press a bit when they get down early in this one.
