Saturday's Hot and Cold Starters 6/22/2013

Postby Freddy Wills » Sat Jun 22, 2013 9:42 am

today check out the full write up along with all of today's hot and cold pitchers in my blog article. With the NBA ATS season over and and predictions still months away we start to concentrate on our .

We have won our last four so I am hoping we will start a bit of a run like we have done with this blog article going 10-4 in our last 14. Now that the NBA season is over we can concentrate on our . On Saturday we have an interesting mix of day and night games with a total of 9 pitchers with ERA's under 3.00 and again only 4 pitchers with ERA's over 6.00 over their last three starts combined. Saturday is a nice day for a veteran to lead his team to a victory.

Tim Hudson has been quietly on a tear posting quality starts with 7 or more innings in each of his last 4 starts. Over his last three starts he has a 2.11 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. He will make the day start today where he has had an ERA in the 3's this year and an ERA of 2.31 over his previous 27 from 2010-2012. During that time he also has been at his best during the month of June with a 2.48 ERA and this season we have seen much of the same. I think has a real edge against the Brewers who he posts a 3.30 ERA in his career against because their offense is struggling right now too. He'll have the advantage of being back by the best bullpen in the majors while facing a young pitcher making his first start.

Donovan Hand has little experience in the bigs, but he's been in the Brewers bullpen pitching well. It's hard to see him going much more than 4 innings which will turn things over to the Brewers bullpen. The Brewers bullpen has allowed 28 HR which is the 6th most in the league. That's an important stat because the Braves have just 3 wins all year when they don't hit a home run. Brewers are just 8-20 in their last 28 vs. a winning team while the Braves are 12-2 in Hudson's last 14 Saturday starts. I see the Braves getting a couple of home runs and getting a much needed victory.

Miguel Gonzalez (3-0, 20.1 IP, 0.89 WHIP, 2.21 ERA)
Dillon Gee (2-1, 22 IP, 1.09 WHIP, 1.64 ERA)
Wade Davis (2-1, 17.2 IP, 1.30 WHIP, 2.04 ERA)
Corey Kluber (2-1, 22 IP, 1.09 WHIP, 2.05 ERA)
Max Scherzer (3-0, 20 IP, 1.00 WHIP, 1.80 ERA)
Mike Leake (2-1, 20 IP, 0.90 WHIP, 2.25 ERA)
Travis Wood (0-3, 20 IP, 0.95 WHIP, 2.70 ERA)
Francisco Liriano (2-1, 19 IP, 1.32 WHIP, 2.84 ERA)

Dan Haren (0-3, 15 IP, 1.73 WHIP, 8.40 ERA)
Barry Zito (0-3, 16.1 IP, 1.90 WHIP, 7.71 ERA)
Johnathan Pettibone (1-2, 14.1 IP, 1.81 WHIP, 6.91 ERA)
Edinson Volquez (2-1, 14.2 IP, 2.02 WHIP, 8.16 ERA)
