News: Burress Scores In Jets Win Sunday

Plaxico Burress made his NFL return a memorable one, and served notice to the rest of the league that he is ready to perform at a Pro Bowl level once again. Burress made three catches on the night, including a beautiful diving grab in the back of the endzone that had a lot of similar traits as the one that he caught for the New York Giants in their Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots a couple of years ago. Burress said after the 27-7 win over the Cincinnati Bengals that he felt good, but that this was just the tip of the iceberg as he and his teammates aim for bigger things. While head coach Rex Ryan’s team cruised to a victory, his brother Rob was having a much tougher time as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys in a 20-7 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Philip Rivers threw for 92 yards and a touchdown as the Chargers scored 17 in the first half en route to the decisive win.

News: More Bad News For Giants As Wilson Lands On DL

The San Francisco Giants have placed closer Brian Wilson on the 15-day disabled list, another hit to the growing list of injuries that the defending World Series champions have been forced to deal with this season. Trainer Dave Groeschner told reporters that the team does not have a timetable set for his return, but that his inflamed right elbow has not shown the progress the team originally thought that it would. Wilson hasn’t pitched since August 15, after which he complained of pain in the elbow.

Tennis News: Djokovic Retires From Cincinnati Finals With Injury

The no. 1 ranked tennis player in the world had his amazing season meet another speed bump on Sunday, as he was forced to retire from his finals match against Andy Murray at the Western & Southern Open due to pain in his elbow. Djokovic had won 16 consecutive matches since falling to Roger Federer in the semi finals of the French Open, but couldn’t make it through the second set at Cincinnati because of the pain. Djokovic told reporters after the match that he had felt exhausted after winning his record fifth Masters series title last week in Montreal, and with the US Open right around the corner he needs as much rest as possible.

NASCAR News: Kyle Busch Wins At Michigan; Moves To First In Standings

A late surge by Kyle Busch past Jimmie Johnson on the final stretch at Michigan has propelled him in to first place in the Sprint Cup Series points standings. Busch is 10 points ahead of the five-time defending SCS champion after beating him out for the win, and with just three laps to go before the Chase, an older and wiser Busch is making things very interesting in this year’s cup series. The next race is Saturday at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
