Betting News: Cardinals Eliminate Brewers To Reach World Series

After it appeared as though they would be on the outside looking in as late as September, the St. Louis Cardinals have completed one of the most improbable runs and are now heading for the World Series. The Cardinals edged the Milwaukee Brewers 12-6 on Sunday in a game that set a record for home runs with one in each of the first five half-innings, but in the end St. Louis overpowered their NLCS opponents and clinched a berth in the big dance. The World Series will open on Wednesday with the Cardinals hosting game one against the Texas Rangers.

News: 49ers’ End Lions’ Win Streak; Brady Rallies Pats

The San Francisco 49ers scored a late touchdown to prevail over the Detroit Lions 25-19 on Sunday and end their perfect season. While the fact that Alex Smith was able to throw the game-winning touchdown on a fourth down with the clock ticking down in the final minutes of the fourth quarter was impressive, his efforts were overshadowed by what happened after the game as Lions’ head coach Jim Schwartz went after San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh after the two exchanged handshakes. Schwartz claimed that the reason he went after the 49ers’ coach was because he heard an expletive comment and didn’t like the slap he received, but in the end all it did was take away from one of the most improbable upset of the week. While the 49ers are 5-1, so are the New England Patriots after Tom Brady led a fourth-quarter comeback in a 20-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys, while the Green Bay Packers remained the league’s only undefeated team with a 24-3 win over the St. Louis Rams.

NHL News: Ducks Score Three Goals In The Third To Beat Blues

A three-goal third period lifted the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday in the lone game on the NHL schedule. Bobby Ryan scored his second of the game just 6:24 into the frame to give the Ducks a three-goal cushion, and they held on the rest of the way for the victory. Jonas Hiller turned aside 28-of-30 Blues’ shots for the win, as Anaheim opened a stretch of two games in as many nights on a positive note with a game against the San Jose Sharks scheduled for Monday.

Auto Racing News: Wheldon Passes After Wreck In IndyCar Series Finale

In a tragic scenario on Sunday, IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon died after a horrific multi-car accident on Lap 11 of the IndyCar season finale. The 2011 Indianapolis 500 winner was airlifted to hospital after getting caught up in a wreck that began in front of him, with three other drivers also injured in the crash. The accident occurred only minutes into the race, and the drivers and governing body made the decision after a red-flag stoppage to cancel the event. Wheldon was just 33-years old.
