5.5** ncaaf playof the day tonight! Tcu vs la tech

La tech +10 -120 5.5* ncaaf pod
L.A. Tech played some quality teams and won 7 straight down the stretch.  3 of their 4 losses came by a combined 9 points and they were starting 17 year old freshmen Nick Isham at the time and they lost to Miss State, Houston and Southern Miss three very solid teams to lose by a combined margin of just 9 points.  Colby Cameron took over after the Hawaii game and it’s been nothing but wins 7 straight he’s thrown 11 TD’s to just 2 interceptions.  Cameron a dual threat QB has the ability to beat TCU’s pass defense which is the real weakness of this team.  They have allowed a 144 QB rating on their road games 14 TD 5 interception  Even LA Monroe 69% 232 2TD and 0 INT.  I think Cameron will have success passing the ball and keeping this game in distance.  Look out for WR Quinton Patton 73 receptions 1135 yards.

The real reason is L.A. Tech’s timely defense they are 8th in 3rd down defense and 25th in run defense they give up a lot of yard through the air but they are much better than that.  LA Tech is allowing 3.36 ypc but their pass defense on the road has allowed only 6 passing TD’s and 10 interceptions for a 103 QB rating.  Austin Davis from Southern Miss who has similar stats to TCU’s starter completed just 55.3% of his passes 0 TD and 1 interception for a 99 QB rating and Southern Miss too only allowed 15 sacks on the season.  Pachal is a bit better no doubt, but I still think TCU’s schedule was extremely soft this year outside Baylor and Boise there really was not any real teams that could actually beat them.  This is a team that did lose to SMU whom never lived up to expectations.

TCU’s strength is their offense and balanced attack I think the running game could have some issues as LA Tech is only allowing 3.36 ypc and their 3rd down offense that is in the top of the nation 54% is 49% on the road and other than Boise who is ranked 5th in 3rd down defensive % the 10 other teams are an average 94th in the nation.  Any team against that type of defenses are going to have success.  To put this in perspective L.A. Tech faced an average 58th ranked opponent in 3rd down % defense.  Red Zone defense L.A. Tech is ranked in the top 10 in attempts allowed per game and this will likely be the key because if L.A. Tech can keep TCU around 40% on 3rd downs they’ll hold their RZ attempts down and that will give them a real shot to win.  Looking at TCU’s schedule I think they are a bit over rated despite winning at Boise because they always have handled Boise well.  This is also a team playing in the Poinsettia bowl after playing in the Rose Bowl.  They are definitely disappointed group I expect them to come out playing hard, but LA Tech is super excited for this game and we have seen how momentum can carry a team.  We saw that in a big way in last night’s game.
