Carlos Villanueva won’t go deep into tonight’s game and the Blue Jays are 14-22 vs. LH starters this year which they will face in Matt Moore. Only the Indians have a worse record in the AL vs. LHP. Villanueva has struggled big time vs. the Rays in 80 AB they have a .363 average and a 1.095 OPS. Jennings, Fuld, Keppinger, Pena, Scott, Upton and Zobrist are an amazing combined 21-53 with a .396 average. Moore on the other hand has a 2.03 ERA in August and is pitching on 5 days rest. In 38 AB the Blue Jays have managed just a .132 and .408 OPS against Moore as he has 10.2 IP combined allowing just 3 ER against them this year. Moore also has a 2.83 ERA this year when he’s on 5 days rest. When Moore it’s off it’s because a team is patient and will take some walks, but Toronto does not play that way they are aggressive and are 22nd in walks so I think this is another good match up for Moore who is also backed by the 2nd best bullpen in the league with a 2.78 ERA while the blue Jays are 24th with a 4.18 ERA and that’s critical in the late innings especially with Villanueva’s inability to go deep into games. Despite 10 runs yesterday he Jays are still 29th with a .617 OPS in the month of August.
