Tennis News: Djokovic Gets Past Nadal For First Wimbledon Title

Although there may have been some confusion after Rafa Nadal did his thing once again at the French Open, there is no debate now about who the best player in tennis is at this point in 2011. Novak Djokovic slayed Nadal in four sets on Sunday for his first-ever Wimbledon title, and in the process improved his record for the season to 48-1, which includes eight titles, and two grand slams. The 24-year old Serbian has faced little adversity during his dominant run, with a semi final loss to Roger Federer at the French Open the only blemish on his otherwise impeccable record this year. While he is nowhere close to being in the conversation of best of all-time along the greats, he is certainly the best right now after taking two of the first three grand slams and losing just a single match.

News: Bautista Crushes Field In 2011 All Star Voting

Toronto Blue Jays’ slugger Jose Bautista didn’t only clinch the most votes for the 2011 MLB All Star game, he crushed the rest of the field. Bautista led the way with a record 7.4 million votes, with fans around the world undoubtedly voicing their support for a man that has become one of the new faces of baseball. Bautista has been dominant at the plate over the past couple of seasons, not slowing down after winning last year’s home run race. The Dominican-native has 27 home runs with 56 RBI so far in 2011, and his .331 batting average ranks among the best in baseball. While it was no surprise that Bautista would lead the voting, some were shocked to see that St. Louis Cardinals’ star Albert Pujols’ name wasn’t on the ballot. Pujols had a slow start to the season and has since landed on the DL with a fractured forearm, so he will not play in this year’s All Star game.

NHL News: Sharks Move Heatley To Wild

The San Jose Sharks traded Danny Heatley to the Minnesota Wild for Martin Havlat on Monday morning, the second notable trade between the two sides dating back to the 2011 NHL draft. That day, the Sharks sent Devin Setoguchi to the Wild in exchange for defenseman Brent Burns, as San Jose looks to continue to tinker with a lineup that simply hasn’t gotten the job done when it matters the most the past couple of seasons.

NASCAR Betting News: Dale Jr. Upset Absolutely Furious After Daytona

Fan-favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. is absolutely furious about what happened with him and his team at this past weekend’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona. Looking for help from Hendrick Motor Sports’ teammate Jimmie Johnson, Earnhardt Jr. looked very comfortable in the race until the No. 48 car dipped out and pitted for gas, therefore separating the two cars and making it difficult for Earnhardt Jr. to finish first. The No. 88 car finished 19th at the race, a far cry from the top-five he registered while helping Johnson to his only victory of the season.
