News: NFL, Players Reach An Agreement On New CBA

The longest lockout in NFL history is now over, as the players and owners reached a new deal earlier today. Drew Brees told players early Monday morning that a deal had been reached between the two sides with the final details mapped out, and that anything left to do would be a mere formality as the two sides put ink to paper and make sure the deal is done. With the delay over the weekend there will no longer be a three-day grace period for teams to talk with their own unrestricted free agents, with the unrestricted free agent period scheduled to open on Tuesday at noon. The NFL free agency period is projected to be an unprecedented frenzy, with hundreds of names unsigned including some of the league’s biggest stars.

News: Red Sox Hand The Mariners Their 15th Straight Loss

The Boston Red Sox completed their sweep of the Seattle Mariners in impressive fashion on Sunday, hammering them 12-8 to send the American League West division opponent to its 15th straight loss. Tim Wakefield pitched 6.1 innings, striking out four to reach the 2,000 club all-time. More importantly, the Red Sox offense came alive again and they added another win to their AL-leading total to continue to push forward towards the pennant. The Mariners’ 15th straight loss set a new franchise record, an incredible turnaround after the run that they made in June when it appeared as though they would be in the mix in the AL West. Only three teams in the history of baseball have suffered longer skids, and Seattle is now just six losses shy of tying the 21-game mark set by the Baltimore Orioles back in 1988.

News: Evans Becomes First Australian To Win The Tour

Cadel Evans became the first Australian to win the Tour De France on Sunday, passing through Paris in what amounted to a mere formality after the way that he took control of the yellow jersey with a strong finish on Saturday. Evans placed second in the Tour in both 2007 and 2008, but was finally able to get over that hump both physically and psychologically to become the oldest Tour winner since World War 2 at 34-years old.

Golf News: O’Hair Emerges Victorious At Canadian Open

After a tough weekend where players seemed to spend more time in the rough than on the fairway at the Shaughnessy Golf Club, it was veteran Sean O’Hair that emerged victorious at the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday. O’Hair actually won the tournament on a bogey putt, waiting for Kris Blanks to lip out on a bogey putt right after before celebrating the win. That final hole was a testament to the difficulty that players faced at the Canadian Open. Bo Van Pelt finished tied for sixth, while Jon Daly finished ninth and Rickie Fowler finished 24th.
