News: Eagles Run All Over Cowboys In NFC East Showdown

With their backs up against the wall against a divisional opponent for the second straight week, the Philadelphia Eagles again responded by running all over the Dallas Cowboys in a 34-7 win on Sunday Night Football. LeSean McCoy rushed for a career-high 185 yards and scored two touchdowns, while Michael Vick added 50 yards more on the ground while throwing for 279 with two scores. After committing several turnovers in the win over the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia didn’t lose the ball once against the Cowboys, and their defense came up big once again by holding the Dallas offense to just 267 total yards. While the Sunday night showdown was exciting from the beginning, the game of the week had to be in the AFC, where the Pittsburgh Steelers finally found a way to beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, prevailing 25-17 in front of the home fans. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns, while the Steelers’ defense held Brady to just 198 yards. The biggest upset of the day came when the St. Louis Rams knocked off the New Orleans Saints 31-21, while a damper was put on Tebow-mania in Denver as Broncos’ quarterback Tim Tebow fumbled three times and threw for only 172 yards in a 45-10 loss to the Detroit Lions.

News: Blue Jackets Earn Second Win; Sens Snipe Maple Leafs Sunday

Four games in the NHL on Sunday included the Columbus Blue Jackets earning their second win of the season with a 3-1 effort against the Anaheim Ducks, while the surprising Ottawa Senators extended their winning streak to six with a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Battle of Ontario. The Senators are not the only Canadian team that has been surprising, as the Edmonton Oilers beat the St. Louis Blues 4-2 to improve to 7-2-2 on the season, while the Colorado Avalanche edged the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 for their first home win of the season.

NASCAR News: Stewart Wins Third Race Of The Chase Sunday

Although he didn’t have a single win all season, Tony Stewart has been a surprise contender in this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase after winning his third race of the playoffs by placing first at Martinsville, Virginia. Stewart passed five-time defending SCS champion Jimmie Johnson on a restart with three laps to go to take the victory and move within eight points of Carl Edwards for first in the Chase standings. Johnson meanwhile placed second, and remains 43 points back of Edwards for first just three races to go.

NCAAF News: Cardinal Pass Boise State In BCS Rankings

A win over the No. 20 USC Trojans was enough to push the Stanford Cardinal up to fourth in the BCS rankings, one ahead of the No. 5 Boise State Broncos. A relatively weak early schedule prevented the undefeated Cardinal from moving in to the top-four earlier, but with a couple of tough tests in the PAC-12 around the corner they should be in line to move up even further if they can extend their winning streak. Meanwhile, all eyes this week will be on Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where the No. 2 Crimson Tide will battle the No. 1 LSU Tigers for first in the SEC and the inside track at the BCS National title game.
