News: Packers Clinch Top Spot In NFC With Win

The Green Bay Packers locked up the top seed in the NFC with a win over the division-rival Chicago Bears on Sunday, behind the first five-touchdown performance of quarterback Aaron Rodger’s career. Rodgers broke a close game wide open by leading three straight scoring drives, and with the win the Packers locked up home field advantage and a first round playoff bye. The loss officially eliminated the Bears from postseason contention, and with one more week to play in the NFL, the only playoff spot open in the NFC will come down to the New York Giants battling the Dallas Cowboys for the East title next Sunday night.

NBA News: Heat Earn Measure Of Revenge With Win At Dallas

The Miami Heat had to stand and watch as the Dallas Mavericks raised their championship banner to the rafters in front of their home fans, but following that incredibly humbling experience, the defending Eastern conference champions absolutely earned their own measure of revenge. Lebron James scored 37 with 10 rebounds and six assists to lead the Heat to a 105-94 win over Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks, who started slow and never did recover. It was clear which of theses teams was the more hungry and which was sitting back to a certain degree, although that trend likely won’t continue as the season progresses and Dallas begins to learn the challenges they will face as defending champions. Meanwhile, MVP Derrick Rose was in top form for the Chicago Bulls with 22 points, including a late jumper that iced an 88-87 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center, while Carmelo Anthony exploded for 37 points, including 17 to match the Boston Celtics in a 106-104 win for the New York Knicks.

Betting News: Maple Leafs Ink Wilson To Contract Extension

After appearing on the verge of losing his job in consecutive losing seasons, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to reward head coach Ron Wilson with a new three-year contract extension even despite that his team hasn’t qualified for the playoffs in his first three years. Wilson tweeted emphatically Christmas day morning about his new contract and how he felt like a kid, and considering that he has yet to get a team in to the playoffs in Toronto, it truly was a gift.

NCAAB News: Xavier Finally Ends Slide With Christmas Day Win

The Xavier Musketeers celebrated their Christmas by ending a three-game losing streak with an 87-77 win over Southern Illinois on Sunday. Tu Holloway scored 21 points to lead his team to an 87-77 win, the first since their infamous brawl against the Cincinnati Bearcats earlier this month. It was Xavier’s first three-game slide under head coach Chris Mack, and if things go according to him the rest of the way, another extended losing streak won’t happen again this season.
