News: Patriots, Giants Advance To Super Bowl

Then, in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter, Billy Cundiff missed a potential game-tying field goal and the Patriots had earned their fifth Super Bowl berth in 11 years. There were similar circumstances in the NFC Championship game later on in the evening, as the Giants and San Francisco 49ers were tied in overtime when Kyle Williams fumbled a punt return deep in his own territory that set up the game-winning field goal from Lawrence Tynes.

Betting News: Seguin Shootout Winner Leads Bruins Past Flyers

A shootout goal from Tyler Seguin ended a game that couldn’t be decided in regulation between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, as the two teams combine for 10 goals through the first three period and sent the game to penalty shots. Scott Hartnell scored a hat trick as the Flyers battled back from down 3-1 after the first, but it was Seguin who spoiled the party in the end with the game-winner. Tennis News: Serena Williams Ousted From Australian Open

American tennis star Serena Williams was eliminated from the Australian Open on Monday by Ekaterina Makarova, after 37 unforced errors led to her undoing in straight sets. Williams admitted after her match that she was still hurting from a sore left ankle, and the numbers illustrated that as she failed to reach the quarterfinals for just the third time in her last 13 major events. Williams’ elimination has left Maria Sharapova and Kim Clijsters among the top remaining contenders.

MLB News: Posada Set To Retire On Tuesday

It certainly wasn’t the biggest news to come out of New York on Monday, but it was significant enough in its own right when New York Yankees’ catcher Jorge Posada said he will announce his retirement on Tuesday. The team released a statement saying that the 40-year old, five-time All Star will end his 17-year career after a trying season with the club with which he won five World Series titles.
