Olympic News: Bolt Defends 100M Title With Record Time

Considered by most to by the marquee event of the 2012 London Olympics, the world’s fastest man didn’t disappoint on Sunday as Usain Bolt set an Olympic-record winning the 100M race in 9.63 seconds. In sixth place through the first 50 meters, Bolt turned it on down the stretch to blow past the field and take the gold medal. News: Saints Knock Out Kolb, Cardinals In Hall Of Fame Game

After spending the entire offseason dealing with the punishments handed out over Bountygate, the New Orleans Saints’ defense didn’t take long to send a quarterback to the sidelines in a 17-10 Hall of Fame game win. After the NFL’s highest-paid player quarterback Drew Brees marched down the field and scored a touchdown on his only drive, the Saints’ defense went to work and defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis sent Kevin Kolb to the sideline with a rib contusion following a big hit on a near safety. New Orleans looked good in its first game without suspended head coach Sean Payton, especially on the defensive side of the ball where new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had his defense swarming the Arizona quarterbacks all night.

MLB News: Cabrera Home Run Caps 5-Run Rally As Tigers Win Fourth-Straight

The Detroit Tigers celebrated the biggest comeback of the 2012 season on Sunday after Miguel Cabrera went deep for his 27th home run of the year to cap a five-run rally with two outs in the bottom of the 10th. Tied at 8 after a two-run single by Omar Infante, Cabrera ended the game with a two-run homer that gave the Tigers a 10-8 win over the Cleveland Indians, which have now lost nine-straight. Detroit has won four-straight to climb within 1.5 games of the Chicago White Sox for top spot in the American League Central. Meanwhile in the National League, the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals are coming on strong after a 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers to complete the three-game sweep, while the Los Angeles Dodgers remained within one-half game of the San Francisco Giants for the division lead in the NL West with a 7-6 win over the Chicago Cubs to complete a sweep of their own.

NASCAR News: Gordon’s Career Record Sixth Win At Pocono Overshadowed By Death Of Fan

Jeff Gordon’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win of the season and career-record sixth win at the Pocono Raceway was overshadowed by the death of a fan just outside of the track immediately following the event. The race was called early due to storms in the area, allowing Gordon to claim his 86th career win and move back in to Wild Card contention in the Sprint Cup Standings. However, the mood became very somber after it was learned that a lightning strike just beyond the main grandstand struck and killed one fan, and injured nine others.
